They made a change in the material used on the tips in 2008 and they are not suppose to discolor anymore. Mine are a year old now and still look like new. I love the Reinharts and so do all that I know that have them. I'd hardly call then "junk".

 

One of the end caps of mine are discolored also, I sent them an email this morning let's see what they would do about it.
