Thumbs down SB435 Smog check of Motorcycles in CA

If you live in CA I urge you to contact your assemblyman and senator to oppose SB435 the bill to require smog checks on all 2000 to present motorcycles. The bill could be coming up for vote shortly. If it passes in CA it will only be a matter of time before other states take the issue on and adopt.

The state of California is hurting so bad for money, that I hear they are going to start imposing emission fees on re-fried beans! Somehow I believe there is no way to reduce those emissions, even if you water cool your ***!

I remember reading about Senator John Danforth (MO.) in an issue of Cycle World Magazine back around 1987 who proposed a bill to require catalytic converters on all new motorcycles. The idea of it just seemed so ridiculous that article went on to say and that it was very unlikely because of the added cost and weight penalty for adding such a device to a motorcycle. Well here we are 22s year later with catalytic converters & O2 sensors on our bikes. It was only a matter of time. Guess what? Smog requirement will become mandatory at some point. Loud pipes (non-stock) will also eventually be made illegal. Having said that, I will fight it every bit of the way until it becomes law.

Doesn't matter if it makes sense or not. It's a source of revenue. The only thing that can save further regulation on motorcycles in California, would be for motorcycles to become the predominant mode of transportation for illegal aliens. If that were to happen...all the lawmakers would just look the other way. Sad but true.
