I think everything from 07 on has that safety feature. I am glad my 08 has it cause that will happen now and again.

Ol' Tod was with me one time. On a fairy........errr no, a ferry crossing the lake. Yep, I was right in the front about two feet from the end of the bow (front) of the boat. About 50 feet from shore, my buddy fires up his bike, so I fire mine up. Jumped about 1ft 11in before I got it stopped. My wife wasn't too happy with me. It did need a bath, but not that bad!!

Did that, Done that a few times with my Sporty and RKC. Nice feature on my '09 Ultra where it wouldn't start in gear. No more embarrasing moments for me, LOL.

My 96 Road King would not start without pulling in the clutch. I always pull in the clutch when starting. Most of the time I start in neutral but sometimes I start in gear with the clutch pulled in.

Glad I read this post or I would not have known about the '09's not starting in gear without the clutch in.

You think it would be something that HD would have included in the owners manual. If it was, I didn't see it in my five times reading it.

Still, I make a habit of always pulling the clutch in before starting.

I will confess, I know someone...lets just call him Tod, who did attempt to start my...er Tod's bike once (on my '03 Ultra) with the bike on the sidestand...thinking it was in neutral. WRONG! Boy was I surprised when the bike lurched forward. Thanks God it didn't fall off the Jiffy Stand. I never.....I mean Tod never made the same mistake again.
I never...well Mike did...But I never did that at all! D@mn that guy mike!

But honestly...what makes ya'll think that Harley would put a neutral safety on our bikes? When they can't even admit we have steering wobble but seemed to have out of no where cleared it up in '09! Wait...Maybe that'll be in '10!

Ride Safe, Mike

I will need to check this out on my 07 Ultra.
I have always been in the habit of starting in neutral so that the bike can warm up. At stops while riding I do the same thing YEAH RIGHT!!!!

I did this on my ole metric bike a few years ago!! Took rear pegs into back of leg.
Glad no damage to... Tods bike.
Can an 07Ultra start in gear? I will damn sure find out tonight!!
