I sold my 2001 RK and bought an 07 Ultra with low miles and remaining factory warranty! I have never looked back. The RK was great but now my riding style and distances have changed and I am much more comfortable in the UC on 350+mile a day trips.
Enjoy!

I have a bum knee. In order to get a lighter bike under me, I've considered trading my 2005 Ultra Classic for a Softail Custom. Only problem is when I think about losing the wind protection, stereo and storage capacity, I convince myself to keep the bagger.

I went from an Ultra to a Softail Custom back in the 90s and never regretted it. Got a compact windshield, throw-over leather bags, and a t-bag and rode all over the southern half of the US, as well as many trips throughout the southwest and Rocky Mountain states. Trips to Sturgis and Laughlin were a piece of cake. Go for it.

The 09' dressers now have the drivetrain short comings worked out.
What "short comings" are you talking about?

IMO, the 09 touring bikes are the way to go if you can swing them. If you want something for zipping around town, look at the RK or SG, if you want to take long trips, look at the EG but the new touring frames and wider tires ROCK!!! I test rode many 08s and 09s before buying and the differences were noticable even for a guy that had never ridden anything but jap bikes. I would think with the market the way it is and the financing options available, you should at least look at the new ones.
