I'll wait for mine to break before I upgrade. I think somebody makes a clear overlay that you could cut out and install over the lights to prevent any debris from breaking them. Not sure about water issues, but the bulbs should be sealed good enough.

 

I've got an '05 w/the se bezel in. I also painted the inner at the same time. The bulbs/lights r the same, and if u look at the back of the housing, it is sealed w/a rubber gasket. I'm betting that if any water ever gets in there, i'll have much bigger problems than that! also changed out the bulbs for a blue bulb, but didn't go bigger watage. Again, if u look behind the faring, u will see that the wiring is very light guage, and a bigger draw bulb WILL cause problems IMO, so change out the bezel and enjoy

 

Lots of RGs with higher watt bulbs. NO problems.
