Hi All

Got about 200 miles on my new SG and it runs great. My only concern is that just about every time I hit the starter, I hear and feel a hard ping like a hammer smacking the side of the case when she fires up. I took it by a harley dealership and asked the mechanic about it. He said it is normal for new engines. He said the starter is doing something or other when the engine fires up. He said in most cases it eventually goes away. OK, I will accept that, but do any of you guys feel or hear this. I know the police bikes were shucking starters when they first came out with the 103s.

By the way, that was not my dealership. I was close by that one, so I stopped to ask and make sure I wasn't making things worse by riding it. They have given me good service in the past. I'm going to check with my dealership this week. Other than that, I love this SG.

its normal on the 07 an and 08 compensator has week srings the weights bottom out when it first fires.

 

Yup, that what it is. If the sound goes away, it is because one of the comp components are trashed, most likely the spring pack.

Well it sure makes a racket. Hard to imagine nothing is getting damaged.

What I was hoping you would say it only the most powerful engines do that. Its a keeper.

have sumthin similar myself on my 09 fatbob... when i first start up bike in the morning the first thing i hear as it fires up is a knock... just one, mostly when its totally cold, like its been sitting overnight... havent noticed it when its been out and about for awhile... ant concerns here?
