Default Windshield question

I have a, what I think is a stupid, question. I have a detachable King size windshield-tall (22 inches from top of headlight) on my RK. The question is, should I be able to see over the top of the windshield or through it?

I was riding the other day in a darker area, I was surrounded by trees so the road was dark, but I had glare from the sun hitting my windshield. With the little bit of road grime/sea spray (I live on the Oregon Coast) I found that I had a hard time seeing the road through the windshield .

I figure asking you guys/gals is a lot better than asking my stealer who just wants to sell me another accessory. What do you think, through or over?

Should be about 2 inches below your line of vision. Thats where mine is so you can look over it most of the time. I'm 6 ft tall and my stock road king windshield is just right.

When I have mine on I always find myself looking through it. At night I look over the top of it.
Most people look over them and they sit below eye level.

Clearview over stock. I'm 5'9 and I had to look thru the stock one; didn't like it. The Clearview was around 2 in. shorter. For me, I can look above it and still not get the wind. It also depends on your bars and seat in relationship to how you sit on the bike.

Windvest. Better, more radical recurve than Clearview. Fast shipping, better product, yes more money but you get what you pay for. http://www.windvest.com/

I hated looking through it and cut the windshield down. I really enjoy having a windshield now that I look over the top easily. Others like to look through I could not get used to it and had to strain to look over the top.

I cut mine down so I could look over it. I put a mark on the ground about 40' in front of the bike and while looking through the windshield I measured how much to cut off so that spot on the ground would be just above the cut. Isn't really hard to cut them down.

+1 on 2" below your line of sight.

+3 on 2" below.
I had a tall one and a short one and a SE one as well (the one in my pics). the medium one(2" below) provided the most protection w/o any fatigue of trying to look thru. Although, in a nasty storm, it is always nice to have a large shield to hide behind.
