You are lugging the engine in 6th at 55....

Try 2700 RPM and you will notice you not only have better performance...but you will most likely burn less fuel.

Default I've always heard...

...lugging the engine causes premature wear on internals of the engine. I've never been a fan of lugging, but for me, if it's 55mph, it's 5th gear. My bike is always in the 2300-3000rpm range. It's funny though, my mileage is exactly the same doing 55mph @ 2300rpm's or 65mph @ 2300rpm's. You'd thing that with the added wind resistance @ 65mph, even with the same rpm's, that I'd get better mileage in 5th gear.

Default another question...

...for you gents that have the 88's or Evo's. What are your RPM's @ 65mph in 5th gear. Before I bought my '08 new, I tested a '99 Ultra for a few days. I didn't know it at the time, but it had been cammed (sp?) and bored. Don't know if it had been regeared at the final drive or not, but at 65mph it was turning over 3500rpm's. Seemed high to me.

Ok, I went riding for lunch, noticed I was doing 50-55 in 4th gear at 2800-3000 rpm's motor sounded very happy.

Prior to doing the Fuelmotto performance package upgrade I would've been in 5th gear @ 55, now 6th gear is just fine with no lugging.
