Default Trick for easy reinstall of riders backrest

Is there a trick to reinstall the stationary back rest on an 08 ultra? The dealer had a time doing it when i got bike and messed up spring on bottom and had to replace.I had seat off to install RJoriginals and thought I had it in but it pulled out and the spring got streached out.Went to hardware store and picked up a few springs but was wondering if I am missing something when I try to install it into the bracket. Thanks for all you help.

I just squeeze mine shut and slip it into the holder then let it go.

Nope.......no trick. I always fight mine too. I hook one side in and then push on the other side of the arm to compress the spring to hook it. Sometimes it goes in easy, sometimes it don't........LOL.

Mine isn't that easy, it's a real pain. I need to take the seat off to do some mods now and am putting it off just because of the pain it is to get the backrest back on. The slot is so tight that I can't get my fingers in to squeeze the bracket.

I've had the same difficulty on my 08 trying to get the backrest back on. They should have made the arm on the rest a fraction longer it seems like to me.

It's a PITA but I'll live with it because I need the thing. No trick to it, I just try and stick one side in and then squeeze it together and push down on it. Seems to work the best for me. Make sure the mounting bracket is lined up with hole in the seat. I put mine one mounting hole back from center of the seat and that helped a little too. Good luck.

I hate it when I have to remove that thing......comes out easy, and like some said, sometimes it goes in easy, other times I just go get another beer.

My '04....same way. I enjoy riding with the B'rest.......with a passenger, just not enough room.
I had a friend give me his back rest....and I find it is easy to install, but when it comes to removing it, my hands are to big to easily sqeeze the tongs together to unlatch it.
I just say to myself , "It's a Harley thing and I wouldn't understand."
