My question is, is there any grease in the neck when the bike leaves the factory?

If there is and it's not leaking, why add any????

Same situation with me also. Dry as a bone after 2 servicing with lame excuses once confronted. I took out straight zerk fitting and installed 90 degree angle one. They are tight and somewhat of a pain to get to line up with all the wiring, but worth it knowing you have grease in your steering bearing. I used Mobil1 synthetic bearing grease.

No, the steering head is not full of grease when it leaves the factory, but the bearings have been greased.

While the bike is being assembled, the bearings are greased and then installed. After assembly, the only way to grease the bearings, short of disassembling the front of bike, is to fill the whole steering head with grease.

Are you sure about the 1/4 " pipe thread? 1/4 " pipe is inside dimension not OD. I would almost be willing to bet if it's 1/4" roughly it's actually an 1/8 pipe thread.
