Default Loose rear shift arm

The rear shift arm is loose on my '05. I went to adjust the bolt where it attaches the arm and it wont budge. Tried to loosen it up with wd-40 but didn't help.

Any ideas?

Do you mean the linkage is loose where it attaches to the rear shifter arm? The arm itself is threaded and the bolt just threads into the hole. If it is jammed up on there, try bending the straw thingy that attaches to the WD-40 can and get in behind it and try spraying the back of it where it would come out. PB Blaster would probably work better. If it is tightened all the way down and jammed up in there, then it shouldn't be loose at this point, maybe the linkage ball itself?

Ya it's the arm itself that is loose. I will try and spray the back of it and see if that helps. I can move the arm from front to back without it even catching. I am thinking that the ridges are smoothed off. Hopefully, on the arm itself and not the spleen coming out of the transmission.

Mine kept coming loose on the spline shaft on my 06 Road King. I tightened it as much as I could and still had the same issue. I removed the bolt and applied blue locktite to the threads and reapplied. I haven't had a problem since.

Ya, I was hoping that would be all I need to do but I cant get that bolt to move. I'm thinking it seized.

How much torque are you putting on the bolt? I just had this issue with my shifter levers. I could not tighten the bolt. So I tried to loosen. I couldn't ....until I put extra length on the allen wrench (stuck it through the hole of one of those tube wrenches in the HD tool kit), and the extra leverage was enough to loosen the bolt. I took loosened both shifter levers...pushed it all together tight, then re-tightened the clamp bolts. There are now tight... for today at any rate.

Ah! Didn't think of extra leverage. Thanks!

well found a short bar in the garage and got the bolt off! The threads on it are messed up so I will get a new one and see if it helps. Fingers crossed
