I don't think it's alingment, but I'd check the alingment out anyway.(can't hurt) looks kinda like something rubbed on the belt. with a full load on the bike see if anything is touching. The damage on the top won't be a problem if it doesn't get worse. Good Luck.

You could have picked up apiece of metal,or something on the highway and jamed it between the belt guard and the belt. One revolution and the damage would be done. If the object then fell out, no damage to guard.

I had a similar scratch (gouged line) on another belt driven bike. Caused when I rode over some sticks on the roadway, one flew up and wedged in between belt guard and belt and made the gouge. I only rode a block before stopping and pulling out the wedged stick, but damage had been done. Doesn't take long to scratch up that top side of the belt., I continued to ride another 10k miles on that belt w/ any more issues. So, I'd say from the looks of the scratch, no harm or foul. Just if you ever hear something rubbing that belt STOP IMMEDIATELY and correct or $$$

I would double check around pullies and make sure nothing out of the ordinary is there. It does not look that bad. If you find nothing, keep on riding you will be fine.
