Default Tool kit for road trips

was wondering what tools should a person carry on his bike? I am not interested in buying a tool kit since I have two tool boxes from the garage I use to work in full of tools, just wondering what type and sets to have on my bike[sm=biker2.gif]

Take the air pump from Harley, an adjustable wrench, a screw driver combo that is a 10 in 1 or 5 in 1 or what have you. That is all I have ever needed. If I can't fix it with these, I call help and head to the local Hooters.

Whenever I work on the bike, I just throw the tool in the toolbag. Here's most of what I have in there:

7/16" combo wrench, socket and ratchet.
Torx bits to fit windshield bolts, hand control clamps, shift linkage (sucks when this comes loose!), and battery clamp
Hex key set (one of those folds-like-a-knife things)
10mm combo wrench for the battery wire connectors
Phillips screwdriver (I have one with interchangable bits, and a kit with about 24 bits that is about 1" x 1" by 2")
leather (at least the palm side) work gloves -- saves a lot of burns
small but bright flashlight
spoke wrench
tire pressure gauge

And I got one of these for me and all my HD-riding family members:

Not as good as full sized tools, especially in terms of leverage, but it has the essentials in a tight package.

Here is what I have.

HD 8 in 1 screwdriver. It will take care of all your screwdriver and torx needs. End wrenches and sockets from 3/8" to 3/4" with a ratchet and extension. 10mm 12 point socket and end wrench for front calipers and battery terminals. Small channel locks, small vice grips, allen wrenches specific to my model, a 6" crescent and a 4" crescent.

I also carry some wire ties, a small flashlight, an oil filter wrench, electrical tape, a spare set of plugs, a funnel for fluids, and a tire gauge.

All the tools roll into a leather pouch that I made out of scrap leather. All the tools are name brand that I got at the pawn shop for about 1/3 original cost.

Here are pics.

Regards,

Bill

On trips in excess of 200 miles from home I carry the HD tool roll that came with the bike, a swiss army type pocket knife, a tubeless tire repair kit, flashlight, spare set of spark plugs and always keep wire ties with me where ever I go. I make sure my roadside assistance is up to date and have a cell phone and credit card. BTW - AAA will NOT tow a bike on their regular memberships...

Streetglide tool kit, plug wrench, tire repair kit and air pump that plugs into cigarrette lighter, small channel locks, cable ties, folding torx set. all weighs about two pounds.
