Default Chroming

My brother has an 08 Fat Boy and I have a 08 Street Glide. He is putting on chrome forks and inner primary. He suggested I take the old parts and have then chromed, and use them on my bike. Is this a valid idea, seems to easy to me, wouldnt everybody be out buying up parts to chrome?

Thanks John

To buy parts and then chrome them would not be much cheeper then buying the part already chromed but if you are getting the parts for free it may be a good deal.

IIRC, his lower forks are single caliper; your bike has twin calipers. Also, don't know if the inner primary is the same on both bikes.

Some folks buy parts to have them chromed in order to avoid the downtime associated with using their own parts. As for chromed sliders, I initially thought about chroming mine, but bought the HD kit instead at 20% off list price.

If you buy take-offs and send them to a good chromer, you will usually have better chrome. HD chrome fork legs are notoriously wavy. The waves come from lack of enough polishing prior to plating. If you look at a set of HD legs and a set that a good chrome did, you will see a world of difference.

Dawg gave me a good idea (after I already bought mine) Take a inner primary have it drilled and tap at the top for a fill hole as it already has a drain hole. Also you can drill and tap the shifter shaft hole for a zerk fitting.

That's a good idea but how would you verify the correct amount has been added?

Or you could read your manual.
