Question Rear tire mileage on '09 Ultras??

One of the folks who posted a reply on my gas mileage thread mentioned that he only got about 5000 miles out of his rear tires. Is this typical?? No way I can afford to put 3 or 4 new rear tires a year, plus the labor charges, on an '09 ultra that I'm about to buy.

Any and all info on the rear tire mileage people are getting on '09 ultras will be very much appreciated to be sure.

Many thanks in advance for all replies!

John

He said on his '07 Ultra he got 5K on a rear. That's way low!!!! I have a '09 Ultra with 5K and the tires are still like new. It's in hiberation right now but as soon as spring gets here I'll get after it again and see how far they'll go. I'm hoping 12K or more, time will tell.

That's true, it was an '07. I didn't think that would make much difference. Good to hear some reassuring news from you. I just could not see how you could wear one of those big fat tires out to the point of having to replace it in 5K. I'd think about 15K of normal riding would be more like it.

Thank you very much for the post. I was panicin' there!

Ride safe when your bike comes out of hibernation.

I replaced the rear on my RG at 9500, only because I was goind on a 2000 mi trip. I'm sure it would have gone 12,000.

My average rear tire on an 08 Ultra is 12000. I think I could get more, but high heat and two up seems to take a toll on our long summer trips across this country.

I've got about 45k on my 06 geezer glide and I'm on rear tire number 4 and front tire number 2. Seems like about 10k per rear and 20k per front.

There's a guy that owns a motorcycle shop near the south end of the dragon that used to get less than 5000 on his rear tires. He's got one on display. The only part of the tire that shows tread and it's almost the full tread depth is the center third of the tire. The outer 2/3's are worn beyond salvation for any purpose. He claims he wore it out on the dragon. If your in that area ask somebody about it, they'll know and be able to give you directions to the shop.
