Default McEwen Oil Temperature Gauge

I will be installing the AP 21-GK61537C (silver faced w/chrome bezel) McEwen Oil Temp gauge this week when I install my HD premium Oil Cooler. I have read many of the oil temp gauge install threads. Many of those threads refer to differences between the HD gauge and the McEwen and I want to make sure I have evrything figured out before I get it on Monday.

I will be using the alternate install method for the sending unit (in the oil pan) suggested on this thread: here

My questions:
1) Do I need an adapter to fit the extra plug hole in the oil pan? Or is the fitting the right size? Or is the adapter included with the gauge?

2) I saw lots of talk about how to wire, but I'm a picture guy...anybody have any detailing the McEwen gauge wiring? Also wasn't sure which gauge some of them were talking about when referring to wiring, so anybody want to fill me in on what to expect so I'm clear?

3) The lighting: Do I need to swap the bulbs out to get the light to match the rest of my stock gauges or is it right the way it comes?

4) Fell free to throw out any other helpful hints I haven't asked about...

If your other gauges are silver with orange color backlight, you may have to buy a bulb and it ain't cheap from Harley. If you pull the bulb and see that it doesn't have a orange looking cover, you will need to buy one. And no you can't just buy the orange looking cover.

Good Luck

Like hogbag07 said, its all in the kit.
While you have fairing off, swap out all the gauge bulbs for LEDs from here. http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/bulb_specs.htm
The size you need is the WLED-R5. They match the speedo and tach perfectly.

The only big deal for me was the fact that there wasn't enough depth to mount it where the ambient air gauge was so I moved the fuel gauge into that slot and put the oil temp where the gas gauge was.

Anyone else have this issue? I was thinking of moving the voltmeter to the left and installing the oil temp gauge on the right above oil pressure...

I soldered longer wires to gauge made it easier to connect after trying to connect with short wire on guage.

How did you route the wires? Down the front down tube or under the tank? I will be going under the tank.

I went down the front tube with wires. also crimped the slide on connector to the sending unit as mine kept coming off.
