Default Route 6 - Pennsy Grand Canyon?

Our HOG Chapter is planning to ride from NJ out across Route 6 in PA through what is known as the Pennsy Grand Canyon. Anyone with experience have any suggestions for points of interest or towns to overnight in? We're going to do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday ride.

As far as lodging I stay at my Aunts place near there. As far as sights I know there is a west and east look out. One on either side of the canyon. I think I was on the east side . And there is a campground right at the visitor center, or entrance as it may be. But alot of towns to stop in and some nice roads when off the beaten path.

The town of Wellsboro is a few miles from the Grand Canyon on Rte. 6 and has a couple of motels to stay; also, as mentioned above, there are campgrounds in the general area. You could try and contact the Chamber of Commerce in the area for more specifics on attractions and availabilities. I live in Central Pa and used to visit the area for a fall foliage ride, but for us it was always a day ride. BTW, for an inexpensive and filling home cooked type meal, stop at the diner in Wellsboro.

Make reservations. We did a spur of the moment trip there last year.We had a hard time finding lodging. Our daughter was home and was able to get on line and find us a place near by.We stayed at the Crossroads B&B in Mansfield(they have a web site, owner was a Harley owner as well).I'd suggest dinner reservations as well.We ate at The Steak House in Wellsboro. We went when everything was still green. It's supposed to be awesome when the leaves turn.Make sure to take a little water if you plan on hiking to the bottom of the canyon as there is nothing down there and it's a long way back up.Corning,NY(glass museum)is about half an hour away.We didn't make it there. We got to the area in late afternoon and only stayed the night. We plan on going back a little better prepared.Hope this helps a little.

+ 1 on the diner, i like the old time diners. Wellsboro is an awesome town at night time with the gas lamps lit. Was there just before Christmas for there Charles Dickens days and had a great time, and locals were friendly also. 1 1/2 hours west on 6 you can get to the zippo lighter factory in Bradford, alittle south in Benasett (spelling) you can go to an elk lookout. All in all, very nice riding and scenery.

Get to the diner in Wellsboro early in the morning to catch thier"sticky buns" (oh yeah)

We do a yearly gig around the 4th of july every year, and usually stay at the canyon campgrounds just before the visitor center.

Got to checkout the fire tower, awesome view for miles around. (first right hand turnoout coming back out from the visitor center)

Did I say eat at the diner?

Lots of great riding roads in the area that form some good loops back to the canyon of about 1,2,3, or 4 hour rides.

Eat at the diner.

west on route six is a harley yamaha kawasaki dealer, great place to stop and check out alot of different bikes.

If going into NY remember you headgear. You got the Corning glass museum, Watkins Glenn raceway, and a bunch of small towns wth lots to see.

Eat at the diner in Wellsboro.

During the summer they also have some great car shows in Welsboro They line both sides of main street.

One thing to remember in that area is to fuel before leaving Welsboro, as it gets sparse out on the back roads.

Oh yeah don't forget to eat at the diner in welsboro, but get there early as there gets to be quite a waiting line (yes the foods that good)

you don't ride "through" the GC.... but it's pretty darn sharp.

Whoa great area for riding ,we spent a full day riding through Central PA's "state Elk game area" We went west towards Couldersport, on RT 6 then turned south onto Rt-44, then still south on RT-144 to Renova ate at a place called sportsman's inn. then back to 144 south.
We really enjoyed that area, and those switchbacks were peg scraping FUN!!!
