It's nice to have a second bike if you can afford it. I'm hoping later in the year to pick up a Buell Uly or a DL Suzuki. I like dual sport bikes, the ability to explore a dirt road sometimes is a blast! My Electra Glide doesn't care for the mud to much!
I keep a Kawi ZX-14. It doesn't have the soul of a Harley but it will put a smile on your face every time. Good for the short trip but keep alert as these sport bikes will kill you quick.
My wife has a '00 SV650 and an '02 SV650S. Great bikes. She'll get 50+ mpg everyday and 60 on a trip. Small, docile, great bike for commuting. Adequate power, just don't go messing with any 600 4 cyl bikes. Handle great in the twisty stuff too. 1st generation, up to '02 are carb'd , second generation, '03 up, are FI. Early 1st gen have non adjustable forks. You can easily swap on a standard set of bars if you don't like the position of the clip ons on the S model. Zero Gravity makes a nice taller windscreen as well. Go over to www.SVRider.org and look around. Just be careful, the strain of mod fever over there is as debilitating as it is here. There is no cure, only periodic treatments made by infusing varying amounts of $$ into said bike.
I have an 2008 Ultra but also have an old 1976 Honda CB750 that is about 90 percent restored. The bike runs good and brings back memory of the one I had back in college days.
Some nice second bikes on this thread. My 99 Road King Classic is my second bike....I use it for back and forth to work and shorter trips. Got rid of all my crotch rockets, for now. Would love to have a Ducati 1098 or 1198S as a third bike.
