Not strictly HD but for the last 10+ years when touring I have always taken my Leatherman with me. It is a must pack item. Anyway this summer I broke the knife blade so on the suggestion of a Leatherman retailer I sent it back for repairs about 2 weeks ago. A brand new Leatherman upgraded model complete with a new holster came back today. A good product made in NA and good service. No affiliation with Leatherman just a happy rider trying to pass on good news in bad times

Thats great customer service there, There's fewer and fewer companys out there that stand behind their products like that. Great idea about carrying a leatherman as well.

+1, my wife gave me one back in '85 when I got on the FD to carry in my bunker pants.

Leatherman has replaced 5 of them over the years, no charge. That thing has saved me time and effort, I don't know how many times.

I do still have the original one she gave me, cause she had it engraved. They sent it back to me along with a replacement the first time I broke it. I wrote them a letter expressing my appreciation for doing that.

My Leatherman have been with me over 10 years,,,deployed with me twice and worked more than it's money's worth! They're an excellent company to deal with!

Which Leatherman do you guys have? I've heard great things about the Wave.

One of my daughters was in an outdoor program at school and took my Leatherman with her on one of their one week trips. When it came back, the main blade was bent back and had massive gouges in it. They were using it to dig roots or something like that.

Called Leatherman to find what it would cost to repair and they said send it in and they would let me know. About 2 weeks later, received a package with the newest model - no charge. These guys are outstanding!

Have Surge.

Had Super-tool...but, broke it...may consider sending it back to company after reading posts.

I'm a Gerber guy myself (let's not start a fight now...) and I've had similar experiences with them. If something fails, they make it right and rarely ask questions. In any case, either is undoubtedly a 'must-pack' device.

Leatherman and Gerber, in this day and age it's nice to hear stories of honest and carrying companies. ^5
