Default 211 cam

Has anyone installed a 211 cam in a TC88? If so, what has been your experience?

I went with the 211's when I did my 95" upgrade. I also went with a higher compression setup, and hence picked the 211 cam. So far I am very happy with the whole set up.
93HP

Of course, this is my first and only HD build up so do not have much to compare, but from what I have read, if you up the compression, the 211 is a good choice if staying with HD parts.

But if I stay with the 88 cu in, are the 211 cams OK to go with?

May not be a good choice at 88" and a bagger, Andrews 26 or HQ 0034 wound be better. The SE 211's are a pooch on the bottom end, they don't realy turn on until 3,000 rpm. Even at 95" there are a lot of better cam choices out there.

I'm being told that the 211 is a good cam for those that use their baggers for touring. They say that when you are going down the highway, you just need to roll on the throttle when passing and the 211 will give you that extra power.

I don't want to burn rubber between stop lights, I just want some power on the highway when I need it.

Does this sound right to you?

Think about how you ride. How much freeway riding do you do, if its less than 60% your picking the wrong cam. Now when you ride the freeway are you 3,000 rpm or higher? are you 2 up and loaded? If your less than 3,000 rpm and 2 up and loaded your picking the wrong cam. Do you ride moutain or areas with decent sized hills? If you do you don't want the 211's unless you love to shift gears because your going to forever be down shifting to stay in the sweet spot of that cam. For 99% of the baggers you want something that will pull strong from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm which is where the majority of us ride. The 211 cam is more suitable to a throttle jocky I.E. someone who loves the ride the higher end of the rpm range. If I was sticking with a 88 I'd look at the Andrews 26 or the HQ 0034, leaning towards the 0034.

When you read the description for the SE 211 cam it shows its not a suitable cam for a 88" bagger.

SE-211 CAM KIT
This camshaft works great with 103" and larger engines
with free flowing intake and exhaust. This bolt in camshaft
works well with stock heads and high compression pistons.

It increases mid-range torque and top end power

BTW my dad had a 06 Glacier Pearl White Ultra until he bought his Triglide, the white is a sharp looking bike.

Million dollar question is what bike was it that had the 88" and how do they ride. Even your bike has an advantage which helps it run the 211 cams, its 96" vs 88" and its about 50 pounds lighter than the Ultra is. I can remember when I took a Electraglide Std for a ride, it was like tossing a toy around after being used to the weight of the Ultra. When I first looked at some work on my bike 3 years ago I was talking to the service mgr who had a pretty stout running Ultra. When we talked 211 cams he said run them in a Dyna or a Softail but don't put them in the heavy Ultra unless you want lackluster bottom end performance. Baggers need buckets of bottom end torque to get the boat moving. With the HQ build I'm running now I have pretty much 99% of my torque in by 2,500 rpm it pulls great from a stop light even loaded down for a long trip with the wife on. It returns 40 - 45 mpg and if I want to pass on the freeway while I'm going 70 mph all I need to do is twist the throttle and hang on. Running out west last year I ran steady 80 - 85 mph for hours on end and times I would pass a 18 wheeler at 100 with just a flick of the wrist.
