Lost Key & FOB
#11
Last year while working in Washington i had a close call, I had been staying at the hotel for about a month or so. I parked my bike right in front and all the workers at the front desk pretty much knew who i was. One night I came home parked and some how must have dropped just my key right by the bike. in the morning when I was going to leave for work i couldn't find my key which is usually with the rest of my keys on my belt so I went and looked all around my bike but no key and as i was walking in the kid working the front desk at night goes hey are you looking for this? i found it by your bike when i went out to my car for a cig around 3am this morning.

My extyra key and Fob are in the wifes locked bag, and hers is in mine...Always have them where we can get to them if needed. Better safe than sorry..
I did have a third spare key made, just in case I am off on my own and lose the key..the fob isn't as big a problem once you program the code into the bike. That key is well hidden...and ONLY when I am out on my own on a trip that the wife can't get to me in under a couple hours..

I pulled a good one, unlocked my fork in Katy Texas 200 miles from home, jumped on I-10 and headed east into Houston. 10 miles in, heavy traffic and I look down and see my only key w/ fob in the ignition. Split second later I realize the potential problem and carefully grab the key and put it in my pocket. How that key stayed in the ignition I'll never know.

My 08 doesnt have the FOB (cost i guess?) but I stopped to fill up on a long ride and lost my key. I did not realize it till I went to fill up to ride back. The bike was not locked but I could not get to the gas tank. I went to the local dealer who told me there is no way to unlock the gas tank with out getting new keys which they ordered for me. So I parked the bike and searched all through the house for my extra key and found it. Then later found the original that had somehow fallen into a pair of shoes I kept in the trunk.
I later found out from an old rider that any harley key will open the gas tank and was even told the top off of a pen might work. It funny that the mechanic at the dealer did not know that. By the way the keys the dealer ordered took a month and a half to get here.
