You don't know what happened and speculation doesn't help. A few years ago one of the most respected riders ("Wolfman") of VROC whom I had met a few times was riding up from his home in VA and was with a few other riders. He simply lost control, went off the road and died on the Skyline Drive. It happens folks. When God calls, it's time to go...
Good post, good information, good outlook. Thanks.

Cagers are only bike specific threats because we are so vulnerable on our scoots. Pay attention now:

EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD IS STUPID

I drive a pickup over 50,000 miles a year and I expect ignorant, self centered, short sighted behavior from everyone driving around me. I'm rarely disappointed. (And it's getting worse)

Most MC riders are much better connected with their situational awareness because they are usually aware they are actually in control of a motor vehicle -- as opposed to sitting in a residence with a steering wheel.

Sorry to hear about the trooper. R.I.P.

I was going to the office an hour later than usual today and the traffic was entirely different than I usually see. I drive a rural stretch of I-40 in North Carolina for about 20 miles and in no time I came upon a car in the fast lane running 60 MPH. I go into the outside slow lane and look over as I pass and the male driver has his head down and is texting. I cannot tell you how mad this makes me. For God's sack what is so damn important that it cannot wait till you arrive at your destination? Well it gets worse as I come up on a white car with Red Cross "Give Blood" stickers all over it and the lady driving comes over the line slightly into my lane and guess what she was TEXTING! I lay on the horn and it scares her long enough to look up and see where she is. Next I come up to a Volvo and the lady driver has a phone in her left hand and her right hand is over the steering wheel holding a pack of cigarettes. Then I just started watching and 8 out of 10 drivers had a phone to their ear.

We have a real problem in this country with cell phones, texting and driving. I hate new laws but the time has come to outlaw phones in cars period unless you are stopped.

No offense to the ladies on the site here but I see more women on the cell phone while driving than men. If they are in a mini van they always have a phone to their ear.

I don't know about you but I like having my phone but I hate when it rings and I NEVER ever TEXT.

I'm 100% focused while riding and I feel like everyone else is distracted.

Sorry to get on this.

God Bless the fallen rider.

Prayers for the family left behind. Put myself in these story lines when this stuff happens. Just one thing that knaws at me about riding.

That is so so true! I also have seen a lot of this lately! And worse yet, here in Chicago, there are no bikes on the road about 1/3 of the year, so when they do come out, no one is used to looking for them, and that is when tragedy strikes! People need to realize that not paying attention could kill you or someone else! I often try to think what did we do 10-15 years ago before there were cell phones everywhere??? Senseless! God bless the fallen Trooper, and may he rest in peace!

Me n coworkers sit out back n watch as hundreds of other employees arrive for work......90% of females drive up with cell phone in ear-park-then continue to chat as they walk 200 yards to building....same thing in afternoon when they get off work, they walk out to car chatting on phone and drive off that way.

What is so frigging important in their life that they can't sever the phone for even a moment?

I'm wanting to buy a cell phone jammer and install in on my scoot.

This accident happened a few miles from my house on a straight 4-lane highway. I often ride this section of highway and have seen some nuts that will change lanes without even thinking about looking. He was riding a new bike that he may not have been familiar with and tried to dodge one of these idiot drivers and lost control. Whatever the cause, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Ride safe out there!

I been a cop for 18 years this could of happen many ways. I am very sorry to hear that another person that enjoys the type freedom that we feel when we ride is gone. I feel for his family and friends what a shame.

Agreed 100%. I am a compassionate biker with a big heart, give out funny jokes and all that until I see someone in their vehicles chatting on the phone, texting or putting makeup on then I get real ugly at that very moment. I'm known to give out "The Bird" and swear profusively the hell out of those people who doesn't care of the possible serious consequences down the road.

Man, Hate it so much when I read their lips such as "Oh My God, What is your f-ing problem ?....Everyone does that everyday so I'm not the only one who does that !". I tell them to pull over so I can give an heated lecture, but they drove off leaving me hopping mad and knowing something could have happen to me if the laws doesn't change. The problem needs to be addressed seriously for sure.

R.I.P. to every bikers who lost their lives to senseless accidents.

Angry Local Biker Killed

May he RIP ! condolences and prayers to his family. A shame someone who put his life on the line to protect us from the crazies, and lawless, to be taken out by one of us! Im sure thats the story, also like was said a new bike unfamiliar with its operations maybe came off a smaller bike that handled differently. I have seen first hand people in the hammer lane texting and talking on the cell phone while driving, and or getting directions from someone while on an unfamilar route, or lost just cut across all lanes to jump off an exit they are almost pass instead of getting off the next exit and doubling back, or applying makeup and derinmking coffee. Texting is a distraction that I cant seem to master when walking let alone driving. I think there should be someting built into cars that prevent phone from getting a signal while the engine is running, hence you have to pull over shut off the car to use a cell phone, as the current phone while driving laws dont work and or arent enforced. Plus now its still cold out and people arent looking for bikers to be on the road they assume its too cold to ride!!!! Ride Safe BV
