Anyone keep their bike stock (engine/exhaust)?
Renting an '06 EG classic tomorrow. Rented one before several months ago....don't own an HD yet. But the EG I rented before was bone stock. Rode it all day. I really liked the sound of the stock pipes. It's not like a stock Honda which is barely audible. The Harley sounded ....well...like a Harley. And the power was adequate for the cruising I was doing. I have a Honda Blackbird so if I want real power, I ride that.
Dunno bike sounded awfully good to me and rode well. If I bought one, not sure I'd want to change out the pipes or it might annoy my ears (w/earlpugs) after awhile. I like sound but really louder pipes.....don't know if there would be anything positive for me.
Anybody ride their touring rig stock as far as engine/exhaust?

I had stock pipes for 10k on my bike. Was wonderful. I could actually hear the radio. Then I got a super deal on D&D slip-ons...and it been down hill ever since....95" upgrade...Cam upgrade...etc...etc...etc...Now that i think back on it....those were DAMN expensive slip ons

Yes, some do but I would say they are the minority. The key is, do YOU like it? If that is the sound and performance YOU like then, go for it. You can always change it later. There are many examples on the Forum of owners doing this and that to their rides only to have them run like crap until they finally get the combination working together. Loud pipes are cool for awhile and then they are just loud. Buy it because YOU like it and you will always be happy with it. my .02 cents.[&:]

I'm all for sound.....if the bike needs it. The carbon fiber pipes on my CBR1100xx sound absolutely mean and are not obnoxiously loud. The stock pipes were insultingly quiet/muted.
I'll have to see how the '06 EG sounds tomorrow. I just remember me thinking, this bike sounds good. A louder bike that makes my head explode after 3 hours, won't do me much good. Maybe the touring mufflers if anything.
I've of course heard guys with the "look at me" loudest, deafening pipes on their HD's that you can hear from 5 miles away. To me those not only sound like utter **** but are totally obnoxious.
