I have a 2000 Road King Classic. I bought it used and it had LOUD pipes on it. The former owner included the stock pipes with the sale. After a couple of hundred miles of the loud pipes, I tried the slip on stock pipes. I'm leaving the quiet ones on. The loud ones that cost $400 are in a box in my garage.

If I wanted to start a flame war I'd say something like the louder the pipes the dumber the red neck. But I don't want to start any trouble here.

Do loud pipes save lives? I doubt it. Driving responsibly does.

Good post, Slacker. And to answer the question, am I sure the EG classic I rode was stock, the answer is yes.

I've now owned 3 Harleys and a Buell and kept 'em all 100% stock - and have been perfectly happy with the performance/sound.

I just picked up my 06 Electra Glide Classic yesterday and have 107 miles on. Put the factory 103" kit in and kept the stock pipes that came with the kit (which are the same pipes that come on the Screamin Eagle Ultra). Best stock sound I've ever heard, EPA compliant and my 7 year warrantee remains intact.

When I want loud and snarly I'll ride my chopper with drags.....

[size=3] [color=#0033FF]Waiting for 1K service before modifying the sled.

Looking to add a moderate tone, but nothing too offensive and rude exhaust!

But by my all means...to each his own. Not gonna force my views on no one who wants loud pipes.

I only worry about myself.

Any suggestions?

Slip ons.....true duals? Not sure myself. I like to listen to the radio, keeps the ole lady from talking.

Rode my 06 Electa Glide Classic a total of 190 miles with the stock pipes and hated the sewing machine sound. The Rineharts solved that problem now it sounds like it should.

Well I just put about 100 mi on an '06 EG classic rental (red) which is bone stock. Pipes sound pretty good to me especially when the throttle's open. First Harley I've rented in 9 months. It's a nice ride and I'm sure I'll have fun on it all day tomorrow. A guy at a restaurant lot told me what a beatiful bike I had... My only real complaints are that the brakes are pretty weak, power is only adequate at best. I'm glad I rented one again b/c honestly I don't think there's any chance I'd shell out $20K+ for this bike....I personally think it's way overpriced for what you get. But to each his own. It's still a nice bike and I'm having a good time with it.

I agre with Lpye, I had perfomance muflers on all my earlier bikes but now I ride with stock muflers and aircleaner on my SG, only mod is the 25 degree injectors and the program to them.

But I read somewhere that the stock catalyst muflers have some holes that could be bored bigger....anyone know anything about this?

I would like to have quit mufflers with a VERY low deep freqvent sound.
