5th GEAR SEAL
Had the king into the stealer this weekend and long story short had to much money into the deal to even get the leak fixed that it went in for. They told me the leak was from the 5th gear seal going bad.........HOW DID THEY KNOW THIS WITHOUT HAVING THE PRIMARY APART?? How hard is it to get in an replace this seal for a novice? What other seals/gaskets should be replaced while in there?

If your in Napoleon then your close to Napoleon Harley right there on US 24 and Industrial Drive, that is where I bought my bike. The people there are very honest, in fact I have two other Harley dealers that are very close to my house I will not deal with. What ever they are telling you, I would believe it is right. Good Luck .. Tim

There would have to be a seal between the pimary shaft and the fifth gear, or secondary which the sprocket bolts to. Fifth and output shaft are one and the same. If it's a 6 speed it would be 6th gear . I don't have any manuals on this trans but if you pull the primarys it should be visible . Should be able to drill a tiny hole in the seal face, put a wood screw in it and yank it out for replacement.
A manual would be a good start to get your bearings for the job as you will get into a lot of other tasks as well while doing it. Plus with the manual you will have an idea on what replacement parts or tools to pick up. Difficult no, but plan it out ahead of time and you life will be a lot easier.
