Default Rides Within 150 miles from your Home

What's your local ridin' like? I'm new to the Texas Panhandle and while it's mostly flat and wind-swept here, I only need to ride 150 or so miles to see some pretty spectacular sites. And the weather ain't half bad, compared to Iowa anyway.

One rule: It has to be within 150 miles of where you currently live, not where you would like to live

I live on the TX/NM border but spend most of my time riding in New Mexico.

My first pick for a close ride is Capulin Volcano in Capulin, NM. It's ~ 85 miles NW of my house off of US HWY 64/87. If you go past the volcano, a very sweet road takes you to the town of Folsom. You can see 4 states from the top of the volcano - elevation 8500'.

My second pick has got to be Palo Duro Canyon, 12 miles East of Canyon, TX on TX HWY 217 - just outside Amarillo. While the road from my place to Channing, TX is pretty uninspiring, the canyons start outside of Boys Ranch and are a site to see. The area around Palo Duro is flatter than flat and smack dab in the middle is Palo Duro, second only to the Grand Canyon in size and depth.

Gonna be 65 here Monday - I'll be taking a Prez Day ride to the volcano!

That is the damn truth. Sometimes I wish I lived in Dallas or something just so I didn't have to travel a whole day just to get out of Texas......and hours to see something other than straight roads and farmland.

150 miles east, and I'm all over the Carolina coast, from the outer bank to Wilmington, north? I reach Lynchburg VA to Stuart VA, and with that a good chunk of the BRP. West? the rolling hills of the Piedmont, south? Charlotte, and a good chunk of South Carolina

When I roll down my driveway I have a view of the Canadian Cascades and it just gets better from there. It doesn't matter if the ride loop is 5 or 500 miles, it's scenic all the way. Just something I'll have to put up with.

I live in the southern part of BC. Right now, there is still huge piles of white crap keeping us away from the bike for another 4-6 weeks.

When it starts up, we are in the middle of a bunch of mountains so have at least a dozen day rides of between 100 miles and 450 miles

Palo Duro is absolutely beautiful. But, here in Delaware we can go due West or anything from North North West to South South West and find great mountain riding, old country farm roads and so on. I'm fortunate to be within 150 miles of the Delaware Water Gap area, The Pocono Mts and The Blue Ridge Parkway. But then, also within that same 150 mile radius is better than 1/4 of the population of the U.S. That means one will probably have to fight some congestion to get to the good stuff.

Brighton, CO along CO Hwy 7 --> Boulder, CO. US-36 to Lyons, CO to Estes Park, CO. From there, pick up the Peak-to-Peak Highway (always awesome scenery and incredible mountains to ride through) to about 3 miles South of Nederland, CO and pick up CO Hwy 72 through Coal Creek Canyon (great twisties) to US-93. From there, head through Superior, CO and on to Louisville/Lafayette, CO then back home to Brighton, CO.

Just one of many, but 150 miles really just a 1/2 day for me...normal ride is 350 - 400 miles per day...

Is it late March yet?

Every ride I take is within 150 miles, my favorite is Waimea Canyon and the North Shore is a nice ride.
