gas tank quantity
Has any one of you actually arn their 5.0 gal/ 18.9 L dry?
I am trying to get a sense of how accurate the light indicator is in relation to the gauge. according to my last tankful I did 300 km or 186 miles and i put in 17.1 L or 4.5 US gals. in tank that was level, so theoretically I should be able to fit another 1.8 liters or 0.5 of you crazy small US gallons
Is the stated gas tank amount accurate?

Don't trust the gas gauge at all really.
You'll notice that once it gets past 3/4 of a tank you can damn near watch the needle go down. Check it at 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 tank readings and look at your tripometer and do the math.
I believe the light is supposed to come on when there is 1 gallon left in the tank, giving you a theoretical 35-40 to find a station.
The best way to find out what your bike has and how accurate or far it will go is to carry an extra gallon of gas with you and let it run out. Then you'll know for sure.

My light comes on at 100-110 miles.
I can usually go 180 and put 4.5 in to the fill plate.
Yesterday I was low enough at 150 on a hill that the bike sputtered and stalled (yikes).
I think I'll fill it at 150 from now on.
Don't trust the light, dont trust the gauge, just pick a mileage that works for you and use that.
Oh, and as I learned, don't push that mileage to the limits. You never know when bad gas or headwinds will lower your mileage significantly.

I happened to be coming to a gas station when the low fuel light came on, and it took 3 gallons to fill to the plate. I have changed the fuel filter in the tank on my 98 EFI, and noticed you could bend the arm if a person wanted to really dial in the point the light came on. The owners manual says there is .9 gal remaining when the light comes on. Play it safe, and gas up based on 36 miles per gallon and you'll never run out.
