Best ride, where and when !

Gotta give it to those that have the Rockies to play in. Been there, done that. I lived in Denver and Aurora years ago. Didn't have a bike at the time but spent a lot of time in the mountains with the car. I even bought a little property up near Grand Lake, (sold long ago).
But, the Eastern mountains have their place too. Keep in mind, they're only smaller because they are thousands upon thousands of years older and have been the victim of many more years of erosion. I have found no other place where I can ride in the open sun then suddenly into the shade of some over hanging trees and actually feel the huge difference in temps.

I love to ride in the Colorado Rockies & have ridden all over that state numerous times. We travel there every year to do just that- RIDE! Durango to Ouray is truely awesome. Then take a short putt over to Telluride & then back to Durango over Lizard Head Pass. Also 70W out of Denver, up over Berthoud Pass and into Grand Lake & over Trail Ridge Rd into Estes Park. You will never forget it!

I understand the beauty of the Rockies and hope to ride there someday.
But as a Southern boy, there is no scenery more beautiful to me than western NC and east TN. I just feel a connection with that part of the country.
Instead of saying "which is best?" just try to experience as many different places as possible.

Riding in the surrounding areas of Sturgis is definitly awesome. Done it many times myself. All in all it is but a small sample of what awaits you further west. You should come out to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. If you like South Dakota, you'll be in your glory further west. Just my $.02.
