A little while back I wrote about my first impressions and I said the the bike was performing flawlessly except for the front brakes. Well the brakes are still the ***** but..

I will first qualify that I have 1200km or 750 M on It with SE Pro, SE cleaner and HD flash. also have 25deg. injectors.

I have been out riding last 2 nights with the wife, temp was 20 C or 68 F. If you spend more than a couple of minutes in traffic. the sled goes into heat management mode, It hasnt stalled yet but It was for sure in the 3rd stage. Also i noticed some deceleration popping has appeared. It just appeared, It was not there before. Odd!!!

I know, I know, before you all jump on me with HG dowload is crap and get it dyno'd and all the stuff. there is no dyno shop in my area, the dealer is setting one up as we speak ( Dynojet) but still I am wondering what the hell am I going to do when It does get hot!!!![:@]

I am a bit depressed as this is my first HD, maybe I should have taken a carb bike...or a jab bike with a rad. I am left with a few questions though..

-Is this over heating only a 2006 problem? EFI ?/ how were the pre 06 bikes behaving, did they also overheat? and how would they act?

-If I bought a brand new $30,000. car, why should i have have to get it dynoed and recalibrated to get It to run right, was the money that I laid down at the initial purchase not enough?

-guys with 2006 EFI bikes who have gone the dyno/remap route, apart from the performance gain, Is the bike more forgiving in relation to the heat? does It go into heat management mode a every freaking corner???

I am a bit bummed right now, So is this what I get for joining the great HD family, pay for an overpriced bike. that right out of the box does not work well, and If I do not inject some of my money at it the problem will not go away.

All of a sudden I miss my Honda shadow...

 

I only have 550 mi. on my 06 Road Glide.It has been warm here 75 and have had to sit in traffic.I have not noticed overheating.One thing I do is turn the engine off at lights that I know are long(red).

If you do think there is a problem,have you contacted the dealer?

Just idles a bit slower when hot and a bit of decel backfire is nothing unusual with stage 1 mods. Go with a PCIII/dyno and you will see an improvement. Also recommend floating rotors. Over 7000 kms now, running great!

 

BountyHunter is correct. The PCIII or SERT will change the way your bike is running. You are STILL running extremely lean. There is tons of info on the download running lean on the forum. The download is the street legal version. Street Legal=Lean. You can have the PCIII or SERT installed with a map matching your mods without the dyno and your bike is going to run much better. The dyno will tweak it til it's perfect.

 

this problem seems to quite a regular subject. my guess is that these machines are set up to run very lean, and so overheat quickly. i can understand the frustration of people who spend a small fortune on a bike only to be let down by the way it behaves. i think that if it were me i would go for one of these power commander things to try to iron the bugs out. It shouldnt have to be that way, but the machine is bought, and if the dealer or manufacturer cant or wont help, that may be the only option. Or maybe the courts should be involved. any product that is purchased should be fit for the purpose intended. A bike that cant idle without overheating cant be right. Having said all of that, my new streetbob runs absolutely fine. I live in england, our machines do not have the 02 sensors fitted so i presume that they are set up different. Maybe the emissions laws are less strict here and so the manufacturer has more leeway

 

IMHO these bikes run lean from the factory BUT when you add a Stage 1, free flowing exhaust etc. you lean the A/F ratio even more. Then they run hot, pop, fart whatever. If you use the factory map (apparently) it does not compensate enough and the bike still runs lean. The option you have then is to put it back like it was or hang in there until you get it lined out again. There are tons of links here on these problems and the solutions different owners have come to. Don't give up on your ride. It will all work out, it will all be OK.[&:]

 

PCIII, Hard Krome True Duals, HD Download, New Injectors, no over heating issues with mine. I have around 1600 miles or so on now, with 800 of them with the new mods.

You have to understand the EPA has the factory buy the nutzzzzz. I was caught in traffic yesterday with the temps in the mid 80's. While there was a good amount of heat coming off the bike, It never went into the heat management mode. Iam running a PowerCommander with a dyno tune, because I wanted to get every bit of performance I paid for.

Iam willing to bet, there is a "canned tune" for your bike from PowerCommander that will make you forget that Honda. If not, maybe its not to late to swap back[8D]

 

Before I bought my EG with a stage 1, I rented several stock motorcycles and found them to run very well. So, I am wondering, with all the problems people are having after they mess with the factory setup, why do you do it? The motorcycle is designed the way it is for a reason, and if you leave it alone, you wouldn't be having those problems.

 

You need a programmer PCIII or SERT. Download is a waste of money. No to be harse but you did this to yourself by wasting you money on the down. It was 76 yesteday I was sitting in traffic for over a hour and I did have a problem. I hope everything work out for you but PLEASE get a programmer ASAP!
