Bob,
I guess that sometimes two good people, even two reasonable people, can have a dispute that never gets resolved. As a small business owner myself, I can tell you it happens to me once in awhile. I have been on both ends.

What some people call customer service, others call unreasonable demands. The line is somewhere in between. It is the thousands and thousands of poor customers making unreasonable demands that has hurt customer service much worse than companies not caring about their customers.

All of us in business have been pushed to the point by some customers that makes us re-evaluate our customer rules. I do think it is a shame that your only real complaint about your shocks and service from Howard is over shipping costs.

I can appreciate your perspective. I think the real issue lies, not with shipping costs, rather a communication break down.

For instance; apparently the shocks have now been shortened (I think but not sure). If this is the case then I would have lowered the front end while I had it apart during the last two weeks while waiting on the shock issue to be taken care of. Now, if in fact they have been shortened and I was not informed they would be, I have to take apart the front end again and as you know; that's not a small job.

Again; it has never been about the cost of shipping. It has been about not knowing about the costs ahead of time. More poor communication.

Hopefully people interested in these particular products will do a search and be fully aware of what extra costs they can expect.

In your small business I would hope your customers know at the beginning what costs will be associated with your product or service.

I just hope that you and Howard can work this out, Howard can go on helping people with their suspension needs, and you can get the ride you want.

edited to add............
My customers know that I do not pay ANY shipping for their product unless I shipped the wrong product or I damaged their product.

On the shock issue, if you listened to Howard (or read the specs on the web site), I'm sure he told you that the 12" shocks only have 2"+ of travel. So even if you have springs as soft as angel soft bath tissue, the lack of shock travel will make for a rough ride over bumps, pot holes, etc. Been there, done that and learned a lesson.
Evidently you know something I don't. I ordered the number 2 - 13 1/4" shocks. If I'm being sent the 12" it's news to me and the wrong shocks (again) Howard talked me into the longer shocks due to the travel. So yes; if they are the short one's they will need to be reworked by Ohlins USA. I figure if you can't get it right with two tries there's no point in letting someone have a 3rd go at it.

Actually I started out on a 1959 Sears-Allstate moped. Paid $20 for it 38 years ago so you see $20 can be a lot of money.

Oh, and my other bike is a Night Train. This ain't my first rodeo.

Arnott Air Ride. Change the ride on the fly. Had it on my 06 Street Glide. Best investment I made.

I have no idea, I just read your post that contained this statement;
"For instance; apparently the shocks have now been shortened (I think but not sure)."
So I just assumed you requested the shorter shocks.
Also, we ride Harley motorcycles, the ride is not going to be 100% comfort all of the time unless all of the roads we ride on are smooth as glass or unless we have mega dollars to completely change the suspension system. And even then, some of the pot holes in this country will still cause us some back pain (if we have bad backs).
You have to admit that the Ohlins ride a lot better then the stock shocks, right? Play around with the sag measurements and maybe you can get them dialed in for a better ride.

Why? Are you against views that are not in line with your own?

If we all thought that way we would need to shut the whole forum down.

Let's see how this one plays out. I report you decide.

I hope it ends well but won't know till the product arrives.

Ohlins makes an excellent shock but it needs to be tuned right for the bike and rider.

Does anyone actually believe I would send a set of shocks back if they were set up correctly? It defies reason to believe so.

Agreed, but I am interested in what shocks work better on a SG. iclick, what do you recommend for a reasonable price? I am not going to drag a knee in the curves, but anything that is an improvement would be nice.
