Can I mix dunlop stock w/ an E3?
I have had a great run and still have several miles left to go on my rear stock Dunlops (11,000 miles). So when the time comes I think I would like to try the Dunlop E3's. The stock Dunlop's have given me very high mileage, but I think I want to try the E3's. If they don't work I know I can go back to the stock 402's
So can I put a E3 on the rear and run a stock Dunlop on the front?
thanks

That's good to know, especially the tar snake wiggle thing. That drives me nuts. Now I know I'm doing the rear swap and then the front when it's time. Thanks for the info!

I have seen posts where claims are made about getting 11k...14k...16k miles outta their stock Dunflops....I consider myself an average rider .....I do ride the twisties a lot as I live in SE TN.....never do burnouts etc....at 10 k my rear stock Dunflop was SLICK....I check tire pressure regularly,NEVER ride two up.....where do they get those 'miracle' tires?...:>)

One person on an old thread had an interesting idea about this. He suggested that because of our warm weather here in S. LA the tires wear faster, as we all know how heat adversely affects tire wear.

Yes, I've had mine on with the stock front tire for about nine months and 9k miles. No problems, but the irritating rain-groove behavior is still here, except only with the front tire. No safety issues with it, just irritating. Looking forward to mounting the E3 front tire that is waiting here.

Stock Tires
I'm perplexed by these claims too. My riding style is like yours and I also got 10k out of two D402's. About 10 years ago I got 14k, down to 12k five years ago, and it only gets worse while nothing else has changed.

You shouldn't mix bias and radials.... but there's no reason you can't mix different bias tire treads (IMO) other will say it's a NO-NO.
I put the E3 rear on with a 880 front, and had no problem. As noted above you'll still have the OEM tread up front, and it will still track all the iperfections in the road.
I "think" I go along with "iclick" regarding the heat cycles. People I know who get amazing tire life, don't seem to ride as often, or in as hot weather as others. I'm sure the road conditions play a part as well.... I think the "final lift" on a road in this area, is sandpaper....
