6 speed tranny swap/upgrade
I am looking to swap out the 5 speed on my 2006 SG for a 6 speed. I am looking from people that have looked into this and or have done it. I am not sure what way to go, buy yhr parts from Harlel or go to a Baker 6 speed. My Indy guy will do the change over but I would like to see what you folks think is the better way to go.
Any info or input on this would be good.
Thanks for your help

About 2 months ago after a lot of research I decided to go with the Baker DD6 trans with the sproket change, Looked at the screamin eagle (A friend has a brand in the box unit I could have had for $1,500.00) the scremin eagle one you need to modify the housing a little to make it fit.
Anyway if you call JT at Baker they will discount will discount. They are trying to move product, got mine for $1999.00 (Discounted from $2,500.00) This became my Christmass present from my wife.
It is the best thing I have ever done for my bike!!! I love it!! Awesome change and combined with the PC111 even better!!!
There number is 877-640-2004 as for JT he is a great resource!! and the $500.00 Discount was awesome!!
Thanks

i dont think its worth it ran my old 5 speed down the road at 85 all day no problems.if you do a LOT of highway id look into changing the primary gearing up just a little it would gain alot of top end and shouldnt lose much on the bottom (first 3 gears are low enough to overcome a taller primary)and a lot less cost.

I went with the SE 6-speed and then sold my 5-speed gearset on eBay. My HD parts guy indicated to me that as long as I wasn't planning on bumping past the 90 hp/tq area that the Baker is "overkill". As you ALL know, that was just one guy's opinion.
I will say this much, with the setup as it is (prior to going to a 98" kit) with a Stage I and SERT if I'm in 6th and hit a fairly stout incline I have to bump it down to 5th or it will bog down.

Either the S/E 6speed or Baker DD6 would be a nice improvement.
If you end up with more than 130 ~ 140ft/lbs of torque a unit with straight cut gears is best: like the S/E or the Baker OD6.
I've had both a Baker DD6 & OD6 in my 05 and could not imagine going back to a 5sp.
The DD6 is hard to beat with it's smooth & quite helical cut gear... until you start making some serious power, then side loading an subsequent shaft separation can become an issue. Don't ask me how I know....
