I did this mod a couple days ago with the one Harley sells; same as stock but chrome & heim joints. Looks great, gives me a sense of security, but doesn't seem to shift any different than stock.

So to bring back on old thread..
What parts are needed for this mod for a 13 FLHX?
I called the dealer they said it can't be done. Of course you have to buy a new shifter set up they said. What parts are needed if someone can break it down for me please.
Thanks to all that can help.

P.S. OK I see what I need and the procedure. But is HD correct the thirteen's cant be done or as usual they are clueless and just trying to get more money?
Has anyone done this mod to the newer bikes?

Have to say, did this fix myself, and now understand why people say shifting feels more crisp and positive.. Now cost wize, i probably spent twice what I should have, but now have spare stainless steel parts for the next project. Also paid a few bucks more for the better stainless hiems as every thing rusts on me.. thanks for the mod folks!

I don't see why it wouldn't work on a 13. You can just order the heim joints and use the stock, old, shifter rod from your original linkage. To make it super easy, just measure the length of the original linkage and duplicate the same length with the new heim joints and old shift rod. If you like the way the new shifter feels than you can buy a chrome rod and you're set.
This mod makes the shifting, to me, more precise and isn't likely to fall apart like the stock shift road will eventually will do.
I did the same thing that Dickey did in that I just bought the chrome setup from HD with the heim joints already installed on the new chrome rod. Yeah, it was $90.00 bucks and it looks pretty.
I built the one for may 2011 bike before I got rid of it and I'm sold on this type of shifter. I have them on both of my bikes.

What is different about the modified one, that makes it better compared to oem? Just better quality steel? or better construction design?

The shifter of my FXDX is also rattling & flapping.

I think the biggest problem here is at the final connection at the side of the gearbox (this small wheel what you cannot reach behind the primary). I hate, uuh, I mean 'dislike' that part so much, I need to hold myself from posting degenerated words in here...

Perhaps I've missed a threat especially for the space on that sprocket wheel on the side? (don't wanna bend this one too far off-topic)
