Default Daytona Bike Week - any place for a newbie?

I'm contemplating coming up to Daytona one day for the bike week events at the Ocean Center and the vendors at the park.

How big a mess is it there traffic wise? Where should one park?

Is it going to be too much traffic density wise for a short-time rider?

Am I over-thinking this and asking too many questions?

Matt

I went to Daytona last year from So. Cal.
I had never been in Florida let alone Daytona area and had no problems with traffic or parking. Go have a good time and enjoy the ride.

In 1995 my dad and I rode to Daytona and spent a week there for Bike Week. He had just gotten back into bikes after a 30 year hiatus and was unconfident to say the least. He was riding a Heritage Softail at the time. We had a great time and there were no mishaps. Go for it.

There will be alot of traffic. There are plenty of pay parking lots around the Civic Center and Main Street. It mnay take a little time but you can find parking most anywhere you want to go to. You'll need to go to Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach and check out the dealership there and J&P Cycles. Leave the Ocean center and go N on US 1 to Ormond Beach, you can't miss it.

One day isn't enough time.

Thumbs up

Chances are that you are indeed over thinking this........however, if you really don't feel confident in riding in traffic, then maybe some caution is a good thing. An awful lot of the accidents you hear about at Bike Week (and the other big events) involve inexperienced riders. Only you can decide this but waiting a while and getting more confidence in your ability may not be a bad idea...........good luck with whatever you decide!

I'd say if you have any experience with riding in large charity rides which tend to sputter along, or parades, or even pretty thick rush hour traffic, then you are ok to make your way to Daytona.

parking in daytona isn't any different than going to the grocery store or anywhere else for that matter. when you see an empty spot, pull in and park.
