Default Powder Coating intake baking plate

Just received my powder coated in gloss black, backing plate for a "Stage 1 Kit" back today, looks really good. local guy did it for $25.00. Going to see if he can match HD colors to do the switch covers and what ever else!

That turns out to be a nice step to take. I had mine done in the wrinkle black finish by Powdercoater one of our forum members. Turned out fantastic. sorry no pictures taken before the install last year. But you can take my word for it.

Did the powdercoater have to use a special high temp resistant material or anything special?

I don't believe the process needs to be any different for this particular application. Maybe one of the powder coating folks will see this and can chime in.

The person that did the coating has the whole system in his garage at the back of his house. His oven is large enough to "bake" frames, rims and the like(a finished frame was sitting on the floor when I picked up the backing plate)! Bakes parts up to 450 degrees. Too bad the inner fairing can't be baked! To have the inner powder coated would be sweet! Alot less chance of scratches and chips in paint.

Nice looking back plane. Have you had any issues with the pciii shutting bike off intermittenly at idle. I have an 08 street glide and I'm experiencing this problem. Not that this has anything to do with your backplane, I'm only asking this because you have a 08 touring model with the pciii installed.

Thanks

There is no need to use high temp powders on any part of a motorcycle, including heat shields and mufflers. High temp powders are only good for a constant 1000 degrees so they can't even be used on the pipes. If you want the actual pipes done I'd recommend high temp spray paint or ceramic coat... or JetHot if you've got the $$.

Even though standard powders will withstand the temps of engine parts without burning or charring, stay away from very light colors and clears because they tend to darken over time from the heat.
