The mileage on the odometer is mileage put on by the dealership after they put the bike together from the shipping crate.
My dealership puts a total of 4 miles on each bike, based on a 'test ride route' they have set up. Sounds like your local dealership has a route that is either 7 or 9 miles long.
Was there when the bike was uncrated and during the dealer-prep process. Was there to watch my bike get it's first ride and it was not by me. Don't think they will deliver a bike without a test-prep ride, it was a long 10-15 minutes waiting for my bike to come back. It sucked watching someone riding my bike before I got to ride it.
My dealer told me all of their bikes have 7 miles on them, but didn't state why. Given that I took my newest bike out for a demo ride before I bought it, it had 11 miles at the time of purchase. Hey, at least those extra miles were mine.
Looked at my Ultra on Thursday when it came off of the truck with no windshield, plastic covered and mirrors turned in etc. and it had 5 miles on the odometer.
i need to go to dealer and check out inventory in back room to see if they all have miles on them from harley testing them before they leave the factory
