I have used the Carl Miles guards since 2005. Had them on my 2004 Ultra, took them off when I got the 2008 and used only the passenger one to keep the queens foot off the pipe. Didn't use the drivers one as the 1" floorboard spacer worked wonders. I now have a 2012 Trike and still have the original guards. You guessed it, I'm using the passenger one to keep the primary case from boot scratches from you know who. Installed spacers on the front boards and went with the Kuryakyn boards. I guess you could say I got my money's worth out of them. I would worry about drilling the r/s board, you can't see it even if for some reason you take it off. They do work and saved me hours of cleaning my exhaust.
