Default What does a 2005 Police RK have that a civilian model doesn't?

Hi guys! Hope you can help my friend out. He bought a 2005 Police model Road King last summer used. He's wondering what changes the powertrain might have had because it was a police model. Would it have a beefier clutch? Was engine displacement more than 88 inches? The dealership that sold it to the original buyer had already changed out the handlebar switches and seat and it had a Harley paint set installed. Really sharp bike. They also took off the police no flat tires cause it has a dual seat on it. Other than that, what else would be different? Also, if he gets a shop manual, does he have to get a special one that has the police model, or just the regular touring shop manual? Thanks in advance for any info you can supply.

The usual differences are the addition of an oil cooler and a heavy duty charging system, in 2007 they went to 103ci motors up from the stock TC 96. They also have Police Saddle bags with the hockey puck latch. Good to get into the bags w/o getting off the bike. Some models, not all, have a heavy duty starter too. Wiring harness is similar but more connectors for police parts (siren, lights, PA system, ETC) Most parts are in the standard RK parts manual but they make a police supplement manual every year. There is no separate manual for regular service. In 05 the engine was the stock TC88 no factory mods.

Thanks BigD! I'll pass that on to him. Guess you were typing while I was! Thanks again.

The main wiring harnesses are different between the civilian and police models. This may become important if your buddy wants to add cruise control.

The passing lamps are wired to wig-wag through a flasher. Presumably, the dealer took care of this when he did the handlebar switch changeover.

Except for the wiring, I doubt your buddy needs the police supplement to the HD Service Manual.

You can order the Police models from the factory with cruise so that shouldn't be an issue. I wired the passing lamps to the pursuit switch so you can turn them on and off. The only thing that stinks is hiding all the loose connectors.
