21/16 wheel combo

21/16
bigsky & Q Hog Thanks, wish I could take credit for the look, but not on this one, bought it that way, '90 Fl, '04 Rk front, Ultima 127 w/6speed, was lowered in front/rear. Bought it last Jan, lot of build issues, got it running were I could trust taking it more than 25 miles from home, will make up for that lost time this year.

Heres my take and I could be wrong but.....the whole 21x18, 18x18, or any other combo with an 18" rear tire vs the stock 16" is all about someone selling you two wheels vs one. I happen to believe that there is something to be said for matching wheels front and rear. That being said I don't find any advantage to having an 18" rear. I believe the 16" is a more comfortable ride, (whether it be with a 21" or 18" front). If the folks who make their living selling wheels didn't market the 18" wheel as the natural compliment to the larger diameter front wheel/tire, and since there really is so little wheel seen, many or most would likely have left their rear 16" stock on and chromed ior powdercoated it. If it were my business I'd like to sell you $2000 worth of wheels vs $1000 or every deal and make it the unquestioned standard wheel tire combination.
I had a 21/18 combo, now a 18x18 combo, and next rear tire change will go with a 16" rear. Probably just powder coat the silver rim of my stock SG wheel. I find the ride better and even though they are very close in overall height, the 16" in the rear does sit a bit lower and shows more tire vs wheel, which I prefer. Depending on the day or angle it can appear that the rear end is a bit jacked up with the 18's and I'm not crazy about that bit of wheel peaking out, after seeing it become the de facto application for these upgrades.
