Default Pulley Wear

Hi - I took my rear wheel off tonight, will be taking it to my indy's for a new tire. I typically drop my bike off to get the tires changed at the same indy. When I pulled the wheel I saw a strange wear pattern on the pulley. I did a search but never came up with anything. Bike has 52000 k (32000 miles) on it and I push it hard. I have taken a few images of the wear which is showing all around the circumference of the pulley, any thoughts on the cause? I am thinking the belt may have been too tight but would like some feedback.

Looks Like Damage from rocks. What does the belt look like?

Interesting. I ran a billet pulley for a while and found out when I lost a belt at 90 that the teeth had squared off and formed sharp edges. I went back to the OEM pulley and now monitor the pulley religiously. At the end of last season I noticed the same pattern as yours. I'll be interested to hear if anyone has any info on this.

It looks more like bad plating. No belt issues with mine.

Holy crap! Something ain't quite right there. I ain't no expert on the wear pattern on belt drive, but surely one of the good techs here will speak up. I'm curious mysellf to know what caused that.

Dionicio - I cannot see any glaring issues with the belt

Beemervet - I was going to take a pick ato the plating to see what the results would be but I thought I would wait for some input first.

I have been known to drive on gravel but this is not the first bike I have done that with.

They are plated to reduce wear and with enough miles they will all look like that. Starts with pitts and then chunks coming off with uneven wear on exposed none plated areas.

So, once this happens does the wear excelerate , necessitating a new pulley?
