I had to replace my starter on my 2008 Roadglide the other day and found out that to replace the starter you do not have to pull the outer primary cover to get the starter off. Seems they got smart and made the starter with the jackshaft and engaging gear as one..... Go figure!!!

Its still PIA but now you have a little less to take apart and put back together

My last touring bike was a 1990 Ultra and was going by my past experiences of starter removal.
