1157 is a twin element, 1156 is a single element. If your bike uses one of them it would be the 1157 for brake and runing light. If your turn single does not have a running light as well as a turn single then it would be the 1156. The 1156 was used mainly in multiple light configurations like the 62 Chevy or as marker light bulbs in older cars.

Fronts should be dual filament (running & signal) rear should be single (signal only). Some guys change the sockets on the rear to dual so they can use dual filament for run/turn. Other guys add a run/turn/brake controller which then makes your single filament bulbs act like a dual filament.
