Default black lowers road pitting

i put a set of black lowers on my RK. i like the look but they do show some pitting from sand hitting them on the road. has anyone tried anything to stop this? i went by the local craft store and picked up some stick-on sheeting for scrapbooking i believe and it would be fine but it is a matte finish and thus it shows. i know i could get the headlight protecting film but it is expensive and no one local seems to carry. i wondered if anyone else has tried something.

Im using 3M paint protection film to cover most of the lower legs and cow bells from this. There isnt much else you can really do when you ride a lot
