You can convert it to the non-cartridge style forks.
You'll need to look in an '06 Parts Manual and see what you need.
I definitely don't see an "emulator" in that picture, and I know emulators are in both forks.
The dampener rods may be different, too.
I see that your fork cap is different.
I'm just wondering with that fork cap, are your fork legs the same length?

I gotta go to work, won't be able to respond to anything else til this evening.

I tell you the best person to talk with about this, FastHarley...the guy that owns the fork biz. Shoot him a PM with a link to this thread so he can see your deal.

2004 is definitely a cartridge.

Abnmarine...
You can convert them.
Might be a little costly, $125 or so.

There is a special toll made to work on the cartridge type leg. They are a couple hundred bucks. My 02 is the same as yours. You will have to take the fork to the dealer to have it worked on.

Question - the lower legs are black which means they have been taken apart before - who did the work? Could a change have been made then?

I have an '04 EG and the service manual. The EG and RG have the cartridge in the left fork so the forks are different from each other. On the RK, there is no difference in the forks left/right.

It's been too long to trust my memory, but I looked at swapping out the parts in my '04 forks to those in the '06 to get rid of the cartridge. I'm recalling that the forks in the '06 are not the same left and right.

If you have the '06 Service Manual, it should have an exploded diagram of the forks (my '04 SM does), so you should be able to tell if you have '06 forks or older model with the cartridge in the left fork.

Thanks guys. My service manual didn't show a diagram like this one. Only the right fork which is different.

I found out that 2005's had the cartridge setup and some early 2006's. My bike is an early 2006 so that explains it. I got the part number to convert it to the newer setup which will be identical as the right fork. Will cost me about $70 for the new tube and other parts.

No biggie but damn did it toss a curve at me. Wasn't expecting this. LOL. Thanks for helping me.
