Default Optimizing slip-ons?

Hey Guys,
Just bought a set of Rinehart slip-ons for my '09 FLHRC. I've been told buy some people just to put these ons & ride. Others have told me to change the A/C & get the V&H fuel pack. Others have said to change the A/C & get the SERT with a Dyno. I'm pretty sure at this point that I'll just be staying with these slip-ons & not getting true duals. So...what's the way to go with optimizing these sip-ons? I know I can just throw 'em on & ride, but I'd really like to get the most out of these puppies in reagrds to sound & power? What would you guys recommend?

As you probably know, an engine is really just an air pump. The less restrictive the intake and exhaust the more "air" you can pump so the more power you can make.

Changing the pipes is one part of the solution (getting more air out), but to optimize performance you need to get more air in as well. Obviously this is a simplistic explanation but you get the idea.

Of course, with fuel injected bikes comes the necessity of reprogramming, either through an ECM download or a tuneable unit like the Power Commander.

If all you're after is a bit more sound, then enjoy your new Rineharts and don't look back. But if you want to squeeze a bit more HP and TQ out of the bike, then you'll definitely need to dump that restrictive factory airbox as well.

My bike is currently stock except for a set of Screaming Eagle slip ons. One of the first things I did when I got it was to pull the baffles out and saw them in half. They're still pretty quiet at low RPMs but at least it SOUNDS like a Harley under full throttle. I'm sure the actual performance increase was negligible at best.

That said, my Dynojet PC III arrived today and my Ness Big Sucker stage II should arrive sometime this week. I talked to Jamie at Fuel Moto USA today and he is going to send me a map for the PCIII. Time to begin waking the sleeping beast.

Hope this helps.

Well said dave. The Screaming Eagle intake is my favorite, they give your bike a different look while performing at its best.

Now, why did you go with the Dynojet PC III & not the V&H fuelpak or SERT? Why Ness' big sucker & not H-D's version?

Because I love shopping online for a good deal and I found the PC III for $110 shipped and the Ness for $160 shipped.

Also, there is a like-new Big Sucker for sale in the parts forum right now for $125. If I'd seen that first I would have jumped on it.

What is H-D's version of Ness' Big Sucker without going all the way up to the SE Heavy Breather ($350!)?

Cloud09King, you'll love the Rineharts. They are one of the best sounding slip-ons (if not the best) IMHO. I'd go with a full stage 1. Get the PC V and Screaming Eagle A/C(beefier cast backplate) from Fuel Moto. Your bike will perform better AND will run cooler(richer mixture) which will cut down on heat issues in the summer too.

for me with my 09. because it still has a warranty and i like the feeling of keeping it. i have slipons. but i will be doing the a/c and at least the down load or sert. through the dealer. so i keep the warranty.
i had thought i could quickly remove the pc if it went in for a warranty repair. but what if i`m on a trip?? sure i could up plug it but how do i change the a/c back on a trip. ifi didnt care about warranty i would do the sert my self
