how did you break in your 103"
Was wondering what kind of rules you guys went by on your break in. I am trying to stay around 2000 rpms with an occasional 2500. at least for the first 100 miles. i dont think im gonna get on it much until somewhere between 300 and 500 miles. i already have a little over 500 on the bike itself.

Dealer told me not go about 50 miles an hour for the first 50 miles. Then don't exceed 55 MPH for 500... Then I went and read the manual, which is exactly what TNJed said. I did what the manual said... Do you know how hard it is to keep a new HD under 55 MPH for the first 500 miles??? That must the service guys way of playing a joke as you leave the lot...

I broke my 07 UC in just like I would a race car; kept it relatively tame for the first 100 miles, to seat the rings, then I just rode the bike as I normally would varying my throttle position every so often til I hit 500 miles.
I think I kept mine below 55 for the first 100, then below 65 up to 500, then 75 up to 1000.
That break-in helped me achieve an average fuel mileage of 47.3 for the 13 mos I had the bike. It will be interesting to see how the new bike fare's with a 103 & SE251 cam.

I think the most important thing is to vary the rpm's until you get a 100 miles or so on it. I have broken in lots of 4 stroke atvs that I've built and I did my 103 the same way, just take it out for a nice easy ride, no lugging and no wot for a few miles. I run the bike long enough to get the motor to operating temp and ride a while then bring it in let it cool down completely and do it all over again, after that I start getting more aggressive with the throttle.
