Smile Thoughts on Blue Ridge Parkway

I am planning a tour for this coming May and was looking for some input on the "Blue Ridge Parkway" ending in TN and thoughts of were to go from there?

That is our trip for 2010. IMO I would head up to Tail Of The Dragon there a many great roads to ride up that way.

It is arguably one of the most beautiful and enjoyable riding locations on the east coast.

Here's a thread about my Blue Ridge Parkway video

I just did this last year, awesome ride! Ride the Dragon and Cherohalah once you get to TN.

At the end of the Blue Ridge turn right.... just kidding (well maybe not). Turning right will take you into the Smokey Mountain National Park (great Road). From there you can take the Foothill Parkway over to the Tail of the Dragon and from there you can head over the Cherohala Parkway. Turning left at the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway will take you into Cherokee TN.

Ton of roads to ride in the Smokey Mountain area (the roads I mentioned above seem to be the most popular or notorious) and a bunch of towns to visit and things to see. Really aren't any wrong way or places to go in the area (unless you're like me and hate crowds and tourist then I'd recommend staying out of Gatlinburg)

Maggie Valley is a great place to stay along your route. Many little inexpensive hotels.

I agree. My brother & I did this a couple of years ago. Best time I've had on two wheels.

Definitely take a ride to the top of Grandfather Mountain. Great views, good photos on hanging bridge. Reminded me of the ride to the top of Mt. Washington in NH. Hit all the othe roads mentioned above; dragon, chera, etc. plenty places to stay along the way and down in TN. Me and wife did last summer from NY. Had a blast. Always found a place to stay.

I agree with all of the above! We had a great trip thru the Smokey's a few years ago. The BRP is awesome. I did not like the Dragons Tail when we rode it. To many Crotch Rockets for me. I like to ride and relax..Can't do that on the Dragon IMO. But now I can say I did it, but won't do it again.
Have fun planning your trip.
