Default Run my 09 stock or go for stage 1?

Just started riding kinda late in life (52) last summer. I have 2000 miles on an '09 ultra. Trying to decide if I should go ahead with stage 1 work. If I do, I'm pretty sure I'ld go for SE air cleaner,SERT, and either SE mufflers, Supertrapp, or some other quieter set of pipes. I talked to the service guy at my local dealer (Capitol City, Madison, WI) and his advice was actually to keep it stock. He said most people have been happy with the 09's sound and performance without mods. The sales guy I talked to said,of course, I should go for it.

Just looking for a few more opinions. Are people satisfied with their 09's stock? Pros and cons (besides $$$) going for stage 1? If I do this I want to do it now before I put more miles on. Also suggestions for mufflers that will add performance and stay on the quieter side would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 09 ultra and I did a stage 1 before I brought it home. I have SE air and Se mufflers and did the down load to the computer. The SE mufflers are not to loud, just a good sound.

I"m leaving my '09 stock. Once you start messing with intake/exhaust is when issues sometimes start - lousy fuel mileage, etc. Mine runs fine as-is and not pinging or lean so i'm leaving well enough alone!

I would do the stage 1 air cleaner and SEST or other tuner for a little more power and for the cooling. The bikes run plenty hot without some type of tuner. If you don't ever plan on doing engine work I'd probably use a fuel controller other than SEST for cost, I started out with a Techlusion TFI on my 09 Ultra until I did some engine work. You can pick up the TFI for around $210 and it's simple to install, I think anyone can do it. It will give you the added fuel needed to get rid of the lean issue and the bike will run better and cooler. I ran a TFI on my 07 for over 14000 miles and I can say it worked great and didn't cost a fortune.

"Just started riding kinda late in life (52) last summer. "
I have a stock, as is.. '04 Ultra.
I was kind of wondering, unless you work in a coal mine or asbestus factory......why you think 52 is 'late in life'?
You may have someplace to get to quick...so I advise the stage one upgrade.
Good luck with that cough you got.

I would do the exhaust of your choice, air cleaner off your choice, and go with the SEST and get a good dyno tune done.

That way you know your AFR is set in a safe range and the bike will be running cooler.

I frequently ride in heavy traffic and mine starts pinging at low rpms when the motor gets hot. So I'm doing the stage one via Fuel Moto's power package. The extra grunt will also be welcome. 65hp isn't much for such a heavy bike.
