Thanks. I've had it for four years/50K miles and it's been a great bike for me.

Should have been more specific about the automotive bushings; I used front end bushings I picked up at Auto Zone or other similar store--they were on a peg board rack and didn't seem to be vehicle specific--just black hard rubber.
We had tons of snow over the last few weeks and the bike's been sleeping under a cover. The last few days have warmed up a little. I was fortunate enough to experience a ride to work today in about 25* weather. Needless to say, I haven't been riding more than I have to. (The car has a flat and my wife's tuition is due...)

Don't sweat on the type. I found the tallest bushings I could and they worked out really well. The thing is solid and isn't going anywhere. The reduced vibration from the bushing thing is nice too.

When it warms up a little, I'll probably go out and locktite the nuts so that it doesn't ever come off while I'm riding around.

Here's an alternative:

http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id204.html

Scroll down to police bike trunks. Larger and small versions available.

They are probably reselling the squadfitters.com products. Didn't check to be sure, but the VIP trunks are Mutazu trunks with a price increase.

I'm 99% sure the eglidegoodies trunks are the ones squadfitters sells, but last time I checked they're less expensive at eglidegoodies

I also used rubber bushings at first, but then after a while i got tired of the thing vibrating like crazy while going down the road. Eventually i purchased 3/4" chrome spacers to "hard mounted" it to the detachable rack.

I have the Mitazu trunk on a HD detachable rack and I still had to raise it 3/4 of an inch to clear the saddlebags. Next summer I plan to add LEDs in between the rack and trunk to add some visibility. No problems here with the rubber washers.
