This has been a hot topic for a while. I changed mine last weekend at 6800 miles and spent about $10. Just used the stock rod and put on CFF5 rod ends and bought a couple of bolts at Lowe's. It's much better than stock.

this is exactly why you need to stash a few tie wraps on your bike, alot cheaper than a hiem

2006 Electraglide - Mine broke at 10,000 and 15,000 miles - Have peace of mind and replace it with non-stock. I wonder if there is an aftermarket linkage that is functional (inexpensive) but properly designed????

Yes there is, it's called using the stock rod, but changing the ends with heim joints....very inexpensive and properly designed. That is as cheap as it gets. There are other linkages that are not too expensive also.

Well, once again this forum has provided 'the right stuff'. The rear rod end on the 03RK came off (unscrewed) at about 26K miles. I just added a dab of loctite and torqued it back down.

Today however, the front broke. Because the Harley gods are always looking after me, I was across the street from the only store for 30 miles - and they had a $2 packet of zipties (like I said, I am watched) - wah-la, I was back on the road in less than 30 minutes.

I like the stainless steel toilet rod and the heim ends. I will achieve that level of greatness tomorrow.

Again thanks to all who posted. I simply can't count the times that this forum has provided 'the right stuff'.

I changed mine to a heim end linkage right after I got the bike. I have been riding with others that broke during a ride, so bring tie wraps if you don't plan on changing yours out. Something the MOCO should have changed years ago.

I just got a replacement H-D "twisted" polished stainless steel gear shift linkage from Zannoti's for $95 shipped. MUCH better than stock. Will replace this week and kept stock unit in bag also for a spare should someone need it.
